Brother HL-2170W 23ppm Laser Printer With Wireless And Wired Network Interfaces

This is my second Brother printer purchase. I still have and use the 9700 MFC that I acquired in 2003. My goal when purchasing the HL-2170W printer was to allow the several laptops that we own to print through a wireless configuration, and after some initial setbacks, all laptops plus our lone desktop are able to print high quality black and white documents without issue. As for the setup issues, I found that given the multiple Windows platforms (XP and Vista), it is easier to have the router and printer connected by a wire, instead of wirelessly. However, once I overcame that hurdle, I have encountered no print issues, and we have printed nearly 800 pages since set up in September.

I will also mention that I am not technically gifted with computers, routers, printers and the like and that this was my first attempt to connect computers to a printer in a wireless setting.

In summary, Brother has proven to me that they make quality, cost sensitive printers that are reliable, and with a little care along with reading & comprehending the user setup manual, they will continue to have my loyalty when making printer purchases in the future.Buy Brother HL 2170W Lowest Price, Order Now! Brother HL-2170W 23ppm Laser Printer With Wireless And Wired Network Interfaces

I've been using this printer for home printing needs for over a year now. According to the online printer maintenance screens, we've printed a mere 880 pages (predominantly school assignments) and only received 2 errors (one time each - low toner and paper jam). When the toner error occurred, google results taught me how to override and continue using the toner cartridge. At page 685, when the toner error occurred, it was definitely NOT time for a new toner cartridge. Easily fixed.

When shopping for this printer, I wanted several things:
- no HP. I hate their software, their hardware, their errors, their annoying software, their tentacles in everything, their blasted software.
- no Canon. Our last experience with Canon was full of errors, until the cat knocked the printer off the shelf. Good riddance.
- Needs to work with Linux.

I really wasn't looking for a laser printer and this was my first. I purchased in a local store when I couldn't find good alternatives to the above mentioned brands. I've been very pleased. With the inkjets, I always had to fidget with them before Every Single Printing job... is it on? is it connected? what's the status window say? is the inkjet clogged? is there paper? is there a job hung-up from 2 months ago? is there ink? No More. With this printer, I've only had 2 network errors that were obvious. One time, I changed the network name so I needed to update the printer. Another time, we were having issues with router and I needed to restart the printer.

We only use this printer with Wireless network. It lives in a storage room in the house. We don't see it, hear it, or pay attention to it. Yet, it still behaves so nicely for us. It doesn't feel cheap like all the inkjets I've had. It's a sturdy cube with no dangling trays or paper holders of any sort. I love the clean lines of it. Inkjets tend to have a weird footprint.

The wireless network setup was bothersome, but it was completed in one evening. If I remember right, I had to plug into wired connection to configure the wireless. Once that was done, it was done. I haven't had to replug-in the wired again because I've been able to use the wireless and the printer web interface.

I have never regretted this purchase. I hope the prices keep dropping on color lasers, because when this printer finally kicks the bucket, that'll be my next purchase. No more inkjets!

Brother HL-2170W 23ppm Laser Printer With Wireless And Wired Network Interfaces

The set up for this printer was a breeze and so far I've only had a few messed up print jobs. Hopefully it will not become a chronic problem. The traditional remedy of turn the printer off and then back on and try again seems to be working on the occasions when problems arise.Buy Brother HL 2170W Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Brother HL-2170W 23ppm Laser Printer With Wireless And Wired Network Interfaces

Well as usual I can not find a laser printer that will work with my Macbook. I used to have use an HP-1012, but at some point it became unfriendly with my Macbook, since then I have been on a quest to replace it.

Encouraged by reviews on Amazon claiming this works with Mac and seeing on the box the manufacturer even claims there is an install for Mac I assumed my quest was ending. Not so! I spent the entire evening getting the darn thing to work wirelessly and print a test page which it did, but when attempting to print any pdf documents I get the following error (failed opening raster file). Well, it's been 2 days of uninstalling drivers, reinstalling drivers, trying gutenprint drives, using usb instead of wireless and nothing works. No response from Brother either.

Conclusion: Apple is annoying, HP is annoying, Brother is annoying...

Anyone know of a laser printer for home use that actually does work with a Mac? Buy Brother HL 2170W Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]
